As you may suspect from the name, an old stock gemstone is a gemstone that was mined some time ago, and for whatever reason is only now coming on the market. Sort of like vintage, without ever being used. The thing is, with gems and minerals, old stock potentially means a level of quality that is tough to match today. Maybe the mines aren’t pulling material like this anymore, or maybe, the mines are dried up and closed entirely. One thing it does mean for sure, it’s not easy, if it’s even possible at all, to find something like it again. It makes it incredibly special.
